– Carolina

Tell us a little about yourself!

A little about me?

I’m Bray, a 30-year-old (man did I say 30? Whoa! lol) artist based in Orlando FL.

I consider myself a fun, eccentric, and creative individual who just happens to do makeup. I also am Addicted to avocados and old bay seasoning and could probably watch harry potter on repeat for the rest of my life lol.  On a deeper note, I grew up with my fair share of obstacles. I attribute my art, creativity, and “make something out of nothing” attitude to a lot of those obstacles.

Art has always been an outlet/ coping mechanism for me but became an even better bonus when I realized I could use it to help others. I spent my earlier years drawing, writing, doing music engineering, performing, tattooing, and even painting…. which led me to my first job as a children’s art teacher at a community center.

Getting that job meant a lot to me and was such a pivotal point in my life.

I figured out that I could help give city kids something to aim for and it was a place/ environment where I was known for my personality, talent, and knowledge vs. my disability. It was the first time I had that feeling and shined a light on to a passion I never knew existed, makeup and teaching.

I have been doing makeup for 10 + years working with reputable companies and being published in respected publications.  I have been instructing in the art world for nearly 15 years and I am excited to keep that going.

BRAY, PROFESSIONAL ARTIST AND EDUCATOR

How did you get started?

I have always been a horror fan and LOVE scary movies. One day I was watching the movie Thirteen ghosts behind the scenes footage. I awed at how they put the different ghosts/ characters together.

I can’t remember whether I said it out loud or to my sister who was watching with me at the time, but I said “ I WANT TO DO THAT!” and next thing I know I was doing my research and my family was helping me move 1000 miles away.

Funny enough because of my love of horror I had absolutely no interest in anything beauty. I went to school and quickly realized I had a Niche for it all and I was skilled in combining genres which got me into the main thing I have been noticed for, high fashion avant- garde. During and after school I was at a very low point mentally. I had no family in the area, was in a toxic environment, and was so broke lint didn’t even want to be in my pocket. I knew I couldn’t waste all the money, time, and effort that was put forth to get me to that point, so I hit the ground running.

I began to do sooo much trade work, which I quickly found out wasn’t always a good thing. But I networked and made connections and lasting friendships that have helped me grow and gain the opportunities that I have been given throughout the years. And here I am in Central Florida, I have been based out of the Orlando area for 9 years.

I work as a freelance artist and an educator. I cater to every type of client/ event. From bridal to Film and everything else in between.  I also teach professionally, I work with clients, established and aspiring makeup artists in skill development as well as business.

I teach every genre/ type of makeup from color theory, to state-of-the-art special fx. My business is built on fun, compassion, and creativity. It’s important for me to have clients feel like there is someone for them. Like they don’t have to fit into a mold to be accepted.

I bring that belief to every gig and every learning environment.  I’m so excited to dip back into tattooing and adding microblading to my services.

I am so passionate about makeup/ art and education. It’s such a powerful tool that can change so many people. I realized that no matter what makeup look someone is put into (their request of course) it can empower and give them confidence.

The look on a bride’s face when you are done or the look of someone on Halloween after you just turned them into a character. Two completely different looks with one thing in common, Confidence. Education is no different, I absolutely love seeing a student who showed up timid, shy, and unconfident leave with a crazy number of skills and so much confidence because they put in the work.

The ability to be able to promote change in such a way is amazing to me and I wouldn’t change it for the world.

Dean Family Farm Photography Session by Carolina Irais in Groveland, Florida

Today I am going to be sharing a very special family session; I was so lucky to have been reached out to capture these once in a lifetime, beautiful yet fleeting moments. I met the Dean family on a beautiful Sunday morning a couple of weekends ago in Groveland, and they are the warmest, most kind + genuine people! I arrived at the most beautiful farm ever, and when I finally met Norelis; we really hit it off! She is such an incredible mother, and now soon to be mother again to her second born. I truly had the best time frolicking around the farm creating beautiful images that will remain in their family for generations to come. It’s truly nothing less than an honor, so THANK YOU!

May you enjoy this gallery as much as we enjoyed creating it!

Caught this super sweet moment between Ellie and dad!

Then Mom changed into something a little something more fancy and really slayed this session!!! Like COME ON LOOK AT THIS QUEEN!

Here is Mr. Dean protecting his family! So sweet.

I told you this gallery was dreamy! I’m going to wrap up this blog post with a round up of randomized shots throughout the shoot in no particular order. Thank you for looking!

Wishing you an amazing evening/day!

Featured Vendor Highlight Series: Christina Garcia, Central Florida Officiant + Owner of Ceremonies by Chrissy by Carolina Irais Photography

Hi friends! Today we are introducing Christina Garcia, Owner + Officiant at Ceremonies by Chrissy in Orlando, Florida.

I absolutely love what I do. I love the couples, their love story and being the one to start the new chapter for the married couple.

As a Wedding Officiant, I customize their wedding script and tell their love story as some family may not know exactly how they got together and how they got to where they are today, getting married.

As I say in all my posts, Let’s get you married. Let’s create an unforgettable ceremony experience that you and your family will never forget.

Friends of mine got engaged in 2019 and my husband and I went out together with them to congratulate them on their engagement. I had mentioned that I would marry them… in which I was being a little sarcastic to say the least. But the couple took it seriously, they asked me to officiate their wedding.

Honestly, I was completely honored. My first wedding was Feb 2020. It was a a little nerve racking but I absolutely enjoyed it. Later on in the year, another friend was getting married and they asked me to officiate their wedding, again I was absolutely honored.

And of course, I gladly accepted their offer. That’s where it all began, Ceremonies By Chrissy

Photoshoot Style Guide-What You Should Wear (and not wear) to Your Next Family Session with Carolina Irais Photography

One of the most important factors that goes into awesome pictures is the clothes you’re wearing and how you are all matching. When everybody is dressed great, everyone will feel great, and when everyone feels great, your photos will look even better! Remember that how you feel and your mood will reflect in the pictures.

We want to choose outfits for everyone that will stay in style for a long time. Our goal is timeless and priceless! Remember, family + friends will be looking back at these pictures for years and years. Let’s also not mention how much of a hard time our kids and teenagers may give us when it comes to what they want and don’t want to wear, so that’s why we’ve created this style guide, just for you! Now take a deep breath…you got this!

This style guide will also help couples + groups! Not just families.

Rule of thumb number one!

Color coordinate instead of color match. You want everyone’s colors to be complimentary to one another. You probably do not want a monotone photo with everyone wearing all the same exact color!

Second question to ask yourself: Do you prefer more saturated colors or more neutral ones for your home? And in which season will the photos be displayed? Summer, winter, fall? All year-round? These are all things to consider.

Rule of thumb number two!

Limit patterns, add textures. Texture can really add depth and interest to your images. It is also quite distracting in a picture when people are wearing very bold patterns that might come off as distracting. Therefore, limit your patterns and graphic tees and designs, and add more textures within your chosen color palette. You will look amazing, promise!

Rule of thumb number three!

Dress up one level above your normal everyday-wear. I recommend incorporating higher quality fabrics for your clothes. Instead of regular worn cotton tee, or polyester, consider silk, cashmere, even linen. Small details like the type of fabric you’re wearing will make a world of a difference. Remember, that you do not have to dress up in a suit and tie or a gown to look amazing. Some nice jeans and a button up go a long way my friend!

Quick Tip for all Moms deciding wardrobe choices for the family: Dress yourself first, then coordinate everyone else.

It will make your life much easier and you won’t feel like you are moving one step forward and three steps back, so yes, fit and dress yourself first! If mom is not feeling it and doesn’t like herself in the pictures, she won’t want to showcase these pictures proudly, and that’s kind of a huge deal. I want you to be super proud + happy with how you look in the photos!

I always recommend that mom wear a dress, if you hate wearing dresses consider a shirt/pant with nicer fabric combo for the top. Pick the dress in a color that is complimentary, but that you also a color that you LOVE.

Let’s talk colors!

We have created simple color palettes for every season, just for you. It is important to always try to not choose oversaturated and super bright colors that will be very distracting in your photos, so try to choose the more muted version of the color you want. As seen below. The recommended amount of colors to work with for your outfits is ideally 2-3, but we will provide more options for every seasons as seen below, at least one of the options from the three chosen colors should be neutral

First up, is summer. We want airy, fresh, clean and fun! I recommend all and any neutrals, but when adding that POP of color, reference to any colors close to these below we have chosen to fit the mood! And again remember, coordinate – don’t match!

Keep in mind that you will only be choosing a total of 2-3 colors for your session.

Summer Color Palette For Family Photos

When we go into the less warm months, heading into Fall, it changes the dynamic a bit. With changing colors outside and depending on where you live, cooler weather comes with more cozy, warm tones. So usually families will go for more earthy, darker tones in their outfits when planning their fall session. Take a look below for some of the best options of colors to use to coordinate your outfits during the fall!

Fall Color Palette for Family Photos

Next up, winter. Now, think cooler colors. Refer to the graphic below for a winter-centered color palette for your outfits! I also want to say that by no means is this a rule book you need to follow to a T.

Especially when I know how much I love to wear red all Christmas long, hehe. So yes, I do personally recommend these colors below. However, we know fall and winter colors and season do have a very gray line of where one ends and the other begins. So what am I saying? Wear what you want and makes you feel amazing! Holidays are the most special time of the year, and we all celebrate in different ways. Take this style guide as some pointers to stick by, but have fun with it! I want to see you be your best and most amazing self.

Winter Color Palette for Family Photos

Next up is spring! I love spring oh so very much. From the blooming flowers to the changing colors and warmer air and sunnier skies, I just love it. Refer below to this table to see which colors we recommend you keep in mind when choosing your next spring family outfits!

Spring Color Palette for Family Session

What ‘not’ to wear

  1. Graphic tees.
  2. Too many patterns.
  3. Neon colors.
  4. Flip flops.
  5. Shirt with logos.

I hope this information helped at least steer you in the right and less stressful direction when it comes to picking out family outfits. Remember not to overthink it too much! Thank you for reading! And make sure to subscribe and follow the blog to get notified every time a post goes live!

I hope you have an amazing day!
Warmly, Carolina.
