How to Prepare for Your Photography Session – Top 3 Things to Do Before Your Family Photoshoot

There are many different factors that go into a session, and if you aren’t prepared correctly, it could potentially turn into a hot mess! But don’t stress, I am here to help you and prepare you in order to have a smooth sailing shoot.

My first recommendation is to choose the clothes at least one week in advance before the day of. This is probably the most important thing because it is the base and starting point of the session. Wardrobe can make or break your photos, so choose wisely.

Every time a client books a session with me, I will send you a personalized list of colors and types of clothing to go by for best results! I really try to make this process as easy as possible from beginning to end! And remember friends! No flip flops, shirts with writing on them, and wear comfortable clothes and shoes you can move in!

My second tip might seem obvious however very important. Get a good nights sleep and a good light meal before arriving at your session, and feed the kids right before, even if it’s just a snack! It will make a world of a difference, promise. I also always will choose a location with a bathroom that way it can be used before we begin our session.

Third, I cannot stress this enough! Always reserve your date with at least six months in advance, especially if you want your session during holiday season. We book up relatively quickly, and we would never want to turn down a client because they booked a month too late. We really don’t want that to ever happen!

Now take these three tips and apply them in practice before your next Photoshoot and I promise it will be smooth sailing! And a lot less stress. I never recommend anything I have not tried and applied myself.

Hope this helped you and if you ever have any questions or inquiries, feel free to message or email me.

Have a good one!
